You Are Here

The cat is lying on top of the router instead of behind the laptop. The photography books are in the small cupboard next to the window. The plants are in better shape. The second-hand tableware is in the cupboard above the sink. There are more silk floral blouses. The drawings on the wall are framed. The ikea sofa is in front, instead of beside the window. But it is not about the objects. It is about the fact that I thought I had created it all myself. 

I met Leslie Grant in New York. Our lives seemed to be copies of one another. Yet on opposite sides of the ocean. She was a photographer, taught at an art school, lived with her boyfriend, and two cats. Just like me. Even the interior of her house looked like mine. I decided to photograph her. And myself. Where portraits usually confirm individuality, these photographs question it.
