My Family

My Family is a series of fictional family portraits. I asked people I didn’t know, selected purely on their physical features, to pose with me as if we were my siblings. Siblings I don’t have, as I am an only child. Strangers began to resemble relatives; I visually created a family I do not have.

My Family refers to the changing status of intimacy, in which the borders between private and public have faded, and in which social surroundings such as family are no longer simply given but can also be imagined and constructed. The photographic encounter is not merely used to represent such a relationship, but to bring it into being.
