Heliotrope (diurnal motion in response to the sun’s movement) is a video installation. ‘Helioptrope’ is a video that balances between moving (film) and still image (photography). Annechien Steenhuizen was asked to imitate three photographs made in 1960 of the first television presenter Karin Kraaykamp. Hereby connecting these two periods in time; the moment of television’s early days (Karin Kraaykamp was one of the first ‘faces’ of television) in combination with Annechien Steenhuizen representing present times in which media is all around. ‘Heliotrope’ addresses the fascination of us the viewer with the image of famous people. The way our attention is captured by the combination of still and moving image makes this fascination very tangible. Like sunflowers following the sun.
